[Edmonton, Alberta]—Soroptimist International Club of Edmonton (SIE), is 80 years old and as part of a global organization for women, is announcing it’s International Women’s Day Celebration on March 12, 2017 at the Chateau Louis Convention Centre in Edmonton where they will award 3 Live Your Dream Awards and a Joy Award honouring  4 Outstanding Women from Edmonton region!  As part of its 2017 financial support, Soroptimist International Club of Edmonton will award 3 Live Your Dream Awards to three female head of their household adult students in Edmonton with financial support in the amounts of $5000.00, $3500.00 and $1000.00 respectively as well as personal support to the students. In addition, SIE awards a JOY award to an Outstanding Woman who leads the Edmonton community in the reduction of harm from Trafficking and in Prostitution Awareness. We encourage the winners to take part in the many and diverse SIE club’s projects for women in the Edmonton region as SIE takes Community outreach to the next level. We have found women want to be involved with Soroptimist in a hands-on way to improve the lives of other local women and their families.  Soroptimist Edmonton Club usually meets the Second Tuesday of the Month and all women are welcomed to be active members.

Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pa., Soroptimist of the Americas improves the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. Soroptimist Dream Programs ensure women and girls have access to the education and training they need to reach their full potential and live their dreams. The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Education and Training Awards for Women (formerly the Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards) provides women who serve as the primary wage earners or head of household for their families with the financial resources to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education and additional skills and training. Recipients can use the award for tuition, books, childcare, bus or carfare or any other education-related expense. Each year, more than $1.6 million is provided in cash grants to women in need. Since this program’s inception in 1972, approximately $30 million has helped tens of thousands of women achieve their dreams of a better life for themselves and their families—leading to stronger communities, nations and the world! In addition to the Live Your Dream Awards Soroptimists support the Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls provides girls with tangible strategies to accomplish their career goals. Soroptimist is an organization that relies on charitable donations and fundraising to support its programs. Soroptimists also power LiveYourDream.org—an online community that offers on- and offline volunteer opportunities in support of women and girls. Soroptimist Clubs are available across the world through Soroptimist International!
